Thinking about a Dog Obedience Group Class for Your Dog? Call 713-728-0610.

Our group classes are 5 weeks in length, they are held on Thursday nights, 7:00pm-8:15 pm at Fondren Five Star Kennels. Pre-registration is required. The total of 6.5 hours of training is $185.00. We keep the class between 10-12 dogs and classes are held in a 5,000 sq.ft. air conditioned room.

Joining a dog obedience group class is an effective and economical way to get good obedience training for your dog. Price should, by no means, be the determining factor in choosing a group class. Here are some important things to consider when choosing the right class for you and your dog:

Reputation and Experience of the Dog Trainer

Your new puppy or dog will be a member of your family for its entire life. You should be as concerned about your dog’s trainer as you would be about your children’s teacher. Jim Burwell’s 20 + years in dog training and dog behavior counseling can take you from puppy training through adolescent and adult dog obedience training and dog behavior management. In order to be comfortable with a trainer, ask about training style and ask to audit a group class night. It is also appropriate to ask for references. A reputable trainer should not have a problem giving you past clients or local veterinarians to call.

Dog Obedience Training Facility

The dog training facility should be set up to both enhance and promote owner and dog training. A good training facility is designed with space that meets the needs of the owner and dog, i.e. adequate space with minimal extraneous distractions.

Dog Obedience Class Size

The size of the dog obedience class should allow the trainer to give each owner and their dog adequate personal attention. One excellent professional trainer to 10 – 12 dogs is a good ratio to deliver consistent training instructions.

Dog Socialization

Ideally, having the ability to socialize (meet and greet) your dog with its classmates before class in a supervised and controlled area will allow your dog to have fun and release energy which helps him focus better in class.

Distraction Training for Your Dog

It’s important to remember that group class is where the owner gets instructed on how to train their dog. Jim can positively instruct people as well as their dogs. If the instructions are practiced correctly at home, the group class will provide good distraction training for all the dogs, and the owners will begin to see meaningful improvement week to week.
