Thank you again for your expertise and patience with our dog. Would you believe that when we first found him he was so unruly we were afraid thatwe might have to bring him to the pound, because we were afraid for our grandchildren. Thanks to you he’s turned out to being a well behaved, lovable pet. — Ray and Billie
Your training is working! “Gracie” is peeing outside consistently, and she even pooped outside this morning! That’s amazing progress. She doesn’t seem to mind staying in her new crate when I have to leave home, and sleeps on her doggie bed in the bathroom all night. She doesn’t even fuss, as long as she knows “Halli” (my other dog) and I are nearby. Thanks for your tremendous help! — Linda
I just wanted to follow up on our sessions with you and “Chance,” our lab/pointer mix. After 2 days of practicing our new training, Chance showed significant changes. He is now very eager to “work” for his food. He is also much calmer at our fence line when folks pass by and at the door when the bell rings. He no longer gets on our sofa or bed. I would have never believed that the techniques would have worked so quickly and I am amazed at his progress. Thank you again! One of the main things I liked and appreciated is that your technique is all based on positive reinforcement.— Danae and Martin
My wife and I just wanted to tell you thanks again for working with “Max.” Your training methods have worked wonders and now allow us to include Max in more of our daily activities. Max is much more responsive to our verbal/visual commands and we continue to reinforce his training daily. Thanks again and we plan on seeing you for a private lesson in the future. — Brigitte and Joe
I just wanted to thank you for your time with us and “Murph” dog this past Saturday. Your tips and insight, which are actually very simple, have been a Godsend to us! Not that Murph was completely out of control and hyper all the time, but his behavior has already improved, as has ours! — Michelle
Here is my update on “Sallie Anne.” She now sleeps in her bed on the floor near my bed without any refusal.I just can’t believe it. I started her out sleeping in the crate and then put a bed out for her and she likes it. So she’s not sleeping in my bed any more. Thanks again. You are on top of your game! — D. L.
Thanks so much for your help. In just one week since our private session, I’ve seen a remarkable turnaround in the behavior of “Nero.” Your recommendations are very easy to incorporate into our daily life, and the impact is enormous. On the first walk following our session, Nero almost immediately jumped at me and grabbed his leash. He responded GREAT to your method of training and has not even attempted to take his leash since then. Our walks are becoming fun, relaxing and something we both enjoy. — Kim
Just thought you’d like to know that “Benny” is looking at me before doing almost anything now. He now sits for me by just putting my finger to his hind end—no pressure! I got some low-calorie treats and have cut them up.…He is also now walking at my side with me just holding the lead closer, without any pulling. No clear explanation for that, since I haven’t given a treat for that or given a command. This is pretty much fun. Can I train my husband the same way? — Jan
We cannot give enough praise to Jim and his efforts in training some of the harder to adopt animals at The Houston Humane Society. He has turned difficult shelter dogs into calm and obedient pets who love listening to their human companions (especially if that famous lamb loaf is involved).
One particular superstar was a beautiful deaf dog named Natalie who
had been in and out of our shelter for over a year and a half. Natalie
was not responsive to human attention and was a very destructive dog.
The HHS turned to Jim for his help, and he quickly taught staff and
volunteers how to communicate with Natalie using hand signals. Within
a month she knew basic obedience and, more importantly, grew to bond
with her trainers. Jim turned Natalie from a deaf and destructive
dog into a warm, wonderful pet who has been with her loving “forever
family” for the past two years.

HHS Staff Thank You!
Whether your dog needs to learn basic manners or requires intensive training to overcome problematic behavior issues, Jim Burwell of Jim Burwell’s Petiquette can give your pet the professional training and behavior counseling it needs to become a well-adjusted,loving member of your family.
Over the past few years Jim has trained eight dogs that were brought the Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) shelter. Some of them were turned in by their families due to behavior problems that had never been addressed. Some were victims of Hurricane Katrina and suffered from severe emotional problems. Jim was willing to take them on to give them a second chance; he believes, as we do, that there are no bad dogs! They were most likely never given the proper attention, training or the love they needed. One dog, Jack, was rescued from a trailer where he lived 23 hours a day in a crate for the entire 18 months of his life. He had not been socialized and was extremely fearful of everyone and everything. Jim gave him the chance he needed and with lots of patience, love and training. Jack is now in a forever home with people who understand his background and love him very much. Jack is always very excited to see Jim when he goes for daycamp.
CAP highly recommends that people seek help with their pets early in its life and certainly before giving up on their pet. Jim can work miracles with any problem. He not only trains the dog, but also gives the owner-guardians the skills to continue the training needed to have a well-behaved and loving companion animal in their home.
All of us at CAP would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Jim for his outstanding and dedicated efforts which made a big difference in the lives of Ziggy, Jack, Miller, Sophie, Wally, Lucy, Punky and Tess the dogs who got their second chance because of Jim.
